Since joining Alnylam in 2015, Joe has been a driving force in establishing and championing Alnylam’s Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) initiative. As a D&I Core Team member, he has led development of a framework for Employee Resource Networks (ERNs), paving the way for Alnylam’s first ERNs focused on supporting women and LGBTQ+ individuals. Joe also supported the implementation of an Unconscious Bias Training program and positioned D&I to scale with Alnylam’s growing global presence. As a Leadership Team member of SAGA, Alnylam’s LGBTQ+ focused ERN, he co-led Alnylam’s involvement in the 2019 Boston Pride Parade. He also strengthened Alnylam’s relationships with partner organizations that promote diversity and inclusion, including Women in the Enterprise of Science & Technology (WEST) and OUTbio, the Boston-based LGBTQ+ (and allies!) Drug Development Network. He was a recipient of the 2019 WEST “Guys Who Get It” Award for embodying their mission and “Own It” theme of encouraging inclusivity and empowerment in STEM. As a Board Member of OUTbio, he works to strengthen the fabric of the LGBTQ+ community within the life sciences industry.
