Commerical Manager - Biosecurity at DHI Water and Environment

Dr Dave Abdo is the Commercial Manager – Biosecurity for DHI Water and Environment (Australia). DHI Australia has a reputation for delivering specialist engineering and environmental services and software within the water industry across the globe. We contribute to water management in the mining sector, support environmental impact assessments for offshore and inshore oil and gas facilities, and resource-to-market developments like ports and undersea pipelines including dredging work. DHI is a global not-for-profit organisation, has 50 years of dedicated research, and real-life experience from more than 140 countries, and strive to make knowledge globally accessible to clients and partners.

Dr Abdo has over 18 yrs experience in benthic ecology and invertebrate biology and has more recently specialised in aquatic biosecurity. He has worked in both industry and government sectors, and has experience in designing, and conducting biosecurity surveillance programs as well as managing emergency marine pest responses and providing strategic aquatic biosecurity advice. He has led the development of the innovative global vessel risk assessment decision support tool, “Vessel-Check” to aid the maritime industry and governments in identifying actions that can as low as reasonably practicable mitigate the risk of vessel’s transferring non-indigenous species (NIS) across the world’s oceans.
