Dr. Ian Selby - Vice President – Global Research and Development – Management Accounting, The Association of International Certified Professional Accountants

Ian has worked for CIMA over the 7 years taking responsibility for our global research and development department. Leading a large research team based in London he has been responsible for expanding the research activities of CIMA to support the development of the CGMA research profile, the CGMA Competency Framework, and CIMA’s global academic programme. On average the team in London produce between 5 -10 major research reports addressing a range of issue and topics which have included the future of finance, management accounting best practice and practice areas, business models, risk and governance and ethics.

With the evolution of the joint venture with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2017, Ian has expanded his role supporting the global academic accountancy community by leading the development of three research centres of excellence in Southern Africa, South East Asia, and Australasia. As a result of growth and success in this area of activity, Ian has recently been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Business School at the University of New South Wales in Australia.

Ian studied at the University of Aberystwyth and at Cambridge University and he holds a Ph.D. in International Relations, as well as a Master of International Relations and National Security Policy. His Ph.D thesis examined the secret diplomatic history of the Vietnam War.
